Before I went home, I really wanted to fish on the Bulkley River. Unfortunately, there were a few complications again. Finally, I finally reached Germany unharmed.

The drive on the Canada Highway leads into a fantastic mountain world. 1800 km, however, is quite a distance to Prince George. From there another 700 km to the south took us to a small steelhead river in BC.

The flight from Frankfurt to Vancouver takes almost 10 hours, depending on the time of year it is a little more expensive or cheaper. You pick up the rental car at the airport and the adventure begins. Everyone decides for himself whether the time is spent in Vancouver, in the nearer or further area. It will definitely be an experience.

Deutsch: Bei vielen Fischern starten jetzt langsam die Vorbereitungen zum Steelheadfischen in BC. Der späte September Aufstieg bringt oft viele und vor allem große Steelheads in die Flüsse. Ich kam damit vor etwa 30 Jahren in Berührung, durch die Videos von Lani Waller.

English: Lot of fishermen are now starting to prepare for steelhead fishing in BC. The late September run often bring many and especially large steelhead into the rivers. I came in touch with this term about 30 years ago, through the videos of Lani Waller.

Le meilleur moment pour commencer votre voyage de pêche en Colombie-Britannique se situe vers le milieu ou la fin de septembre. Ce temps est déterminé par le poisson que nous voulons attraper: Steelhead! Steelhead sont des truites arc-en-ciel anadromes (anadromes) qui peuvent atteindre des tailles énormes, en fonction de leurs rivières indigènes. Pourquoi leur lieu de naissance est-il important? Il y a des rivières où les saumoneaux se dirigent vers la mer à l'âge de 2 ans. Dans d'autres rivières, par ex. le Kispiox, les saumoneaux passent 4 ans. Quand ils arrivent dans la mer, ils peuvent manipuler des proies beaucoup plus grandes. 

De cette façon, ils prennent du poids beaucoup plus rapidement et atteignent des tailles plus grandes. La Babine est une autre de ces rivières. Alors qu'une steelhead de 25 livres est un poisson haut dans le Bulkley, votre nymphe ou mouche pourrait accrocher un poisson de 10 livres plus lourd dans le Kispiox. Quoi qu’il en soit, le fait est que toute steelhead, quelle que soit sa taille, doit d’abord être accrochée. N'importe quel type de pêche à la mouche a son propre charme, qu'il soit sec ou humide, que ce soit la pêche à la dérive ou la balançoire. Chacune de nos méthodes a son moment. La patience est une prérogative, cependant.

À tous les pêcheurs qui se rendent en Colombie-Britannique pour pêcher le poisson pour la Steelhead: Je vous souhaite de nombreux moments merveilleux sur l'eau. Le nombre de poissons qui remontent les rivières est exceptionnellement élevé! Malheureusement, je ne serai pas là pour la première fois depuis plus de 25 ans. A l'année prochaine peut-être.
